Christmas Slippers

The perfect Christmas gift - SLIPPERS! Yes, Sonya spent a couple of weeks knitting slippers for the girls. Color decisions were difficult as usual. The pattern was quite simple and the wool blend yarn perfect for the project.

Christmas at the Bed & Breakfast

The day after Thanksgiving the Christmas tree and the house was decorated for the season. Now a little over a week later we are living in a winter wonderland! It snowed 11 plus inches on Tuesday and the temperature is burrrrr. The wind provided us beautiful snow drifts. Well, they were beautiful until we realized neither our tractor or the snow blower worked. Then they became quite a challenge when we started to scoop by hand. No we didn't scoop both drives. Many of you know that would take days. Thanks to friends and large machinery (farmers), it is Friday and we now have both drives cleared. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas!

Monkey see, monkey do...

Yummy, here is a fun beginning to the day for a group staying in our cottage awhile back. Lets just say we enjoyed the leftovers.

Pretty Purse

Out with the old, and in with the new...a new purse that is! This is my first Amy Butler purse. I used the "Birdie Sling" pattern paired with fun fall fabric. It was a fairly easy to whip up, and very stylish :)

Busy Busy Busy!

Our family has been super busy these last few months (the reason for the lack of posts)!!
Here's a little look at some of the major happenings at the Nelsen household:
  • Our middle daughter, Courtney graduated high school
  • We hosted an Independence Day Celebration
  • We took a family vacation!
  • Alex spent a week at the Webster County Fair
  • Mackenzie, the youngest just got back from a mission trip in Brooklyn

And then there are those everyday things like work that keep us all busy!

Currently, we are getting ready to send Alex and Courtney off to college! The house has been turned upside-down and inside-out getting them all packed up.

Special Guests

The Cox Family stayed in the "cottage" for a few days this week. After they left this morning, we did our routine cleaning. While changing the sheets on the bed their two daughters shared, we found three special guests snuggling under the covers.

Corinne and Melissa, don't worry. We are taking good care of your friends! Very soon you will all be reunited! We will be sending them in the mail so be looking for a package.

Signs of Spring

Ever so slightly spring is starting to emerge! The grass is starting to turn green, our pussy willow out front is beginning to bud, and crocuses are peeking through the dirt. Perhaps the most convincing evidence is the arrival of the Sandhill Cranes, who make their yearly migration flight north for the summer. Today is the first day of spring break for our two youngest girls and our oldest, who is in college, is just finishing up her week long break. The weather is slowly warming up and we are preparing for oodles of spring projects.
